Shamsuddin Ahmad

Professor

Dr. Shamsuddin Ahmad has over 40 years of experience in Economics and Health Economics Research and Teaching. He was the Professor and the Director of the Institute of Health Economics, University of Dhaka. Prof. Ahmad worked as a Professor in the Department of Economics, University of Dhaka. He was Chairman of the Department of Economics, and the Director of the Bureau of Economic Research, University of Dhaka. He worked as a permanent member (Economics) of the National Wages and Productivity Commission-2005 (April-October 2005) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. He also worked as the Specialist on Tariffs, Incentives and Linkages and the Coordinator of the Textile Strategic Management Unit (TSMU) in the Ministry of Textiles, the Government of Bangladesh during 1992-1999. He is currently an Honorary Professor of Institute of Health Economics, University of Dhaka. He acted as the Local Consultant in NIPORT, (November 1986-May 1987) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Having obtained B.A (Hons) and M.A degrees in Economics from the University of Dhaka, he also obtained M.A degree from McMaster University, Canada, and Ph.D degree from Monash University, Australia. Through research and teaching in different universities at home and abroad, he developed expertise in the major areas of economic theory, international trade, and econometrics, and health economics. He has also wide experience in survey works and policy analysis.
