Institute of Health Economics, University of Dhaka offers a unique platform for its students called “Be Pro” Programming Club to share knowledge on basic software learning and their applications, programming languages, statistical analysis tools and career development activities. The prime objectives of this club are to create an open platform, easily accessible to all the students here to share their knowledge and expertise with everyone to strengthen their skills, competencies, and enhance their professional development. The skills are necessary for both academic and working sectors. Be Pro provides sessions to create inclusive, academic, and career-centered discussions and learning opportunities for all learners. They are easy-to-follow, systematic guides that students get to know everything from very basic, and progressively build their knowledge. “Be Pro” always maintains a content bank where all the previous sessions and discussions are stored in a disciplined manner so that any student can easily get access to it anytime. This club provides a lot of multidimensional activities including regular live sessions on basic software skills, where participants get the opportunity to improve their efficiency from the very basic level in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Being a student of Health Economics, it is often required to possess good knowledge of programming languages and statistical software to be successful while looking for jobs. Therefore, “Be Pro” arranges interactive sessions on Python, R, and Stata, which are in great demand at present. Having strong expertise in these programming languages and statistical software will help our students immensely to be successful in their professional careers in the future. One of the special editions of the club is the “Be Pro Career Development” project where our honorable faculties, alumni, and professionals from various sectors are presented as guests and they share their vast knowledge and experiences with our students on different topics such as C.V. writing, a career in research, higher study abroad with a full scholarship, etc. The average number of registered participants in these sessions is around 120. “Be Pro” also regularly motivates its members by arranging PowerPoint slideshow contest, essay competition, and blog writing. Instructors, Technical and Marketing are the 3 teams that are currently working relentlessly to run the activities of the “Be Pro” club under the right guidance provided by the honorable faculties of IHE.
